We all have a beautiful light within We forget sometimes

“Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God.”

Maya Angelou, posted on Maya Angelou facebook page 5/23/14

Maya Angelou, American poet and inspiration for a generation of women, died May 28, 2014 at age 86. Her last post on facebook is quoted above. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, she shared that Emilie Cady’s book, Lessons in Truth, touched her deeply and helped her believe that God LOVES her. In that book she found the words, “God loves you.” Reading them over and over, she finally got that SHE IS LOVED.

When Angelou discovered that God LOVES her, she began a quest to help other women, men, and children know that they are LOVED. Her grasp of metaphysical concepts was nourished by her interest in the Unity Church and its principles. As she neared the end of her life, she was able to enter into the unknown with the faith that comes from living her life trusting that she was LOVED and never alone.

She listened to herself, and she wants us to know the wisdom and LOVE that is within us. She came to believe in herself, and from her pen sprang great and beautiful words. Words which allow people, especially women, to feel they are known and understood and heard. Words which capture the nuances of LOVE and life and raise us up to a better place and higher vibration. Her courage and accomplishments inspire us to listen to ourselves as well, to listen for the voice of God within us, and to give it voice with our own.

“God, bless the soul of Maya Angelou and welcome her home with a great celebration. She brought your voice to many of us for many years. Thank you for her and her life. Thank you for LOVING us all. I love you, too, God.”
