Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love Paws in the City fb

“Dogs come into our lives to teach us about LOVE. They depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog; it merely expands the heart. If you have loved many dogs, your heart is very big.”

Erica Jong, quoted on Paws in the City facebook page

Dogs teach us to LOVE and LOVE again, no matter what. They can be cautious where their personal safety is concerned, but, once they trust you, they deliver lots of LOVE. They are always happy to see you. They want nothing more than to be near you and give you their LOVE. They don’t succumb to bad days, bad moods, or bad thoughts.

I believe God gave us dogs to help us understand God’s unconditional LOVE for all of us. Human LOVE is so wonderful, but fraught with challenges. However, dog LOVE is not only pure but uncomplicated.

When we lose our LOVING pet, it leaves a hole in our heart. But we learn that we will always LOVE them. And, when we get another dog, we know it cannot replace them, but it can lift our spirits, bring us joy, and expand our heart to embrace more LOVE.

Our dogs LOVE us ‘till the day they die, and still LOVE us from heaven after they are gone. And, according to near-death experiencers, we will see them again on the Other Side. Dog LOVE is forever.

“God, open our hearts to your LOVE through the LOVE of our beloved dogs and other pets. Help us learn from our dogs how to LOVE each other and ourselves unconditionally. Give us hearts as big as those of our dogs. Thank you, God. I love you.”
